About Btrust

Btrust is a non-profit organization established to decentralize the development of Bitcoin software. Our mission is to build a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem by fostering developer talent in the Global South and strengthening the free and open-source Bitcoin ecosystem.

Founded through a generous donation from Jack Dorsey and Shawn Carter (Jay Z), Btrust is governed by an all-African board of directors and operates through a globally distributed team.

We drive impact through three main pillars:

  • Developer Pipeline: Training and supporting developers through our internal engineering program, Btrust Builders.

  • Grants: Provided over $1.7M in developer, education, and event grants to sustain open-source work and contributions worldwide.

  • Community Infrastructure: Strengthening grassroots developer communities (BitDevs) and technical events across Africa and beyond.
