About Btrust

Btrust is a non-profit organization established to decentralize the development of Bitcoin software. Our mission is to build a more diverse and inclusive ecosystem by fostering developer talent in the Global South and strengthening the free and open-source Bitcoin ecosystem.

Founded through a generous donation from Jack Dorsey and Shawn Carter (Jay Z), Btrust is governed by an all-African board of directors and operates through a globally distributed team.

We drive impact through three main pillars:

  • Developer Pipeline: Training and supporting developers through our internal engineering program, Btrust Builders.

  • Grants: Provided over $1.7M in developer, education, and event grants to sustain open-source work and contributions worldwide.

  • Community Infrastructure: Strengthening grassroots developer communities (BitDevs) and technical events across Africa and beyond.

About the role

We are looking for a highly organized, execution-driven Programs & Operations Officer to support and own the day-to-day delivery of Btrust’s programs, grants, events, and community initiatives.

This is a full-time role at the center of Btrust’s execution engine, responsible for translating plans into action and ensuring that programs, events, and grants are delivered on time, at a high standard, and with strong documentation and follow-through.

The Programs & Operations Officer will work closely with the Head of Programs and Operations, Stephanie Titcombe, and collaborate across Engineering, Communications, and external partners. This role is ideal for a strong operator who enjoys coordinating complex workstreams, improving systems, and taking ownership in a fast-moving, mission-driven organization.

What you’ll do

  • Own day-to-day operations for Btrust Builders programs and education pathways.

  • Coordinate faculty, mentors, and guest speakers, including scheduling sessions and managing logistics.

  • Maintain accurate program documentation, trackers, dashboards, and internal knowledge bases.

  • Support and help run Btrust-supported BitDevs communities, including onboarding new chapters, maintaining records, and supporting recurring meetups.

  • Track BitDevs activities, budgets, and reporting requirements in coordination with grants and communications teams.

  • Support the full operational lifecycle of education and event grants, including application tracking, contracts, disbursements, and reporting timelines.

  • Support planning and execution of virtual and in-person events, including flagship convenings such as the Btrust Annual Gathering and Developer Conference.

  • Contribute to improving workflows, templates, playbooks, and internal systems.

  • Act as a reliable execution partner to the Head of Programs and Operations, owning defined tasks and workstreams with minimal supervision.

  • Support special projects and time-bound initiatives, particularly during peak program or event periods.

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Project Management, or a related field.

  • 3–5 years of experience in program coordination, operations, or similar execution-focused roles.

  • Experience supporting or running multi-stakeholder programs, grants, events, or community initiatives.

  • Strong organizational and coordination skills with high attention to detail.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple workstreams in a remote, distributed environment.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills.

  • Comfort with owning operational tasks end-to-end, from planning through execution and close-out.

  • Familiarity with project management and collaboration tools (e.g., Notion, Google Workspace).

  • Experience working in nonprofits, NGOs, grant-funded programs, or distributed teams is an advantage.

  • Interest in developer ecosystems, open-source communities, technology education, or Bitcoin-related initiatives is a plus.
